One common type of good boss really sticks out from the rest, says workplace culture expert Tom Gimbel: the people person. Traditionally, good bosses have skills in areas like time management, constructive criticism and simply being able to help co-workers through day-to-day tasks. "The more authentic you are, the more people are going to connect with you and enjoy your company," Gimbel tells CNBC Make It. Here's how you, too, can become a "people person" at work, experts say. Sharing stories with the people around you shows that you want to build a relationship with them, and reminds them that they can "laugh a little bit and enjoy our work," Gimbel adds.

If you've watched HBO's "Silicon Valley" or NBC's "The Office," you've seen several examples of obnoxious aggression and manipulative insecurity exhibited by leaders. It almost goes without saying that actual managers shouldn't look to mimic Michael Scott, or the command-and-control culture dramatized on television. Instead, leaders should strive for what former Apple and Google executive Kim Scott calls the radical candor approach, showing that you care personally while challenging directly. "It's rare that we do both at the same time, especially with feedback at work, but really feedback in any part of your life," Scott said. "At the core of radical candor is a good relationship between manager and employee, between peers, and up, down and sideways," she said.

Michael Cera and Sophia Lillis Photo: Variance FilmsCringe comedy is a well-established genre, but if you extracted the humor from it, you’d be left with something like “The Adults,” whose central character keeps trying to be funny but winds up merely pathetic, and not in the unintentionally hilarious way that Michael Scott did on “The Office.” Yet he ends up oddly sympathetic.

To the Editor:Re “As Israel Churns, Lawmakers Pass Court Overhaul” (front page, July 25):While the hard-liners in Israel may have won their battle to neuter the Supreme Court, one can ask whether or not the victory was really worth the loss of comity among the Israeli people, as the legitimacy of the government is now in question. Whatever happens next, it is a sad day for Israel and the American people who support the country, because as Abraham Lincoln once warned, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”One can only hope that Israelis can find a way to step back and regain the sense of common purpose that has been the north star of the country’s existence. Michael ScottSan FranciscoTo the Editor:I am a Los Angeles native and a Jew. Given the history of Jewish persecution, I have always taken comfort in knowing that Israel is there for me just in case something terrible were ever to happen to jeopardize a safe Jewish existence in the U.S.

The Fed’s preferred gauge of inflation, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index, showed that inflation was double the target in May (more on inflation shortly). Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index showed that annual inflation slowed from 4% to 3% in June, the lowest level since March 2021. Then on Thursday came Producer Price Index data, which measures the average change in prices that businesses pay to suppliers. That data showed annual wholesale inflation cooled last month to the lowest level in nearly three years. And June of last year was monumental: Annual inflation soared to 9.1%, the highest in more than 40 years largely because of record-high energy costs,” she wrote.

A deepfake video of Ron DeSantis as Michael Scott in "The Office" has gone viral on Twitter. Ron DeSantis acting as Michael Scott in an episode of "The Office" is going viral on Twitter, and it's just another example of how artificial intelligence can be weaponized against politicians. The deepfake video features DeSantis' face superimposed on that of Steve Carell's iconic character. The deepfake DeSantis replies indignantly: "No. Trump's camp has launched numerous attacks on DeSantis since he announced his bid — this deepfake video is just the latest example of how AI has been used against DeSantis.
Don Trump Jr. re-tweeted a AI-generated clip of Ron DeSantis appearing as Michael Scott in "The Office." In the clip, the character is ridiculed by his coworkers for wearing a woman's suit. In a bizarre attempt to insult his father's 2024 presidential competitor, Trump Jr. re-posted the video with the caption, "DeSantis does seem to spend a lot of time in high heels." In the clip, Ron DeSantis's face and voice are superimposed over Michael Scott's — the character played by Steve Carell — in a scene where Scott is being ridiculed at the office for wearing a woman's suit.
